Frequently Asked Questions

Does the GIA Pearl Identification and Classification Report address nacre thickness?

On the Pearl Identification and the Pearl Identification and Classification Reports, the average nacre thickness of bead cultured pearls can be optionally requested for an additional fee. However, if the thickness of the nacre coating on a pearl or pearls is too thin to sustain normal wear, then this fact will always be disclosed in the comments of all reports. All classification reports provide an evaluation of nacre condition at no extra cost (but this is not the same as nacre thickness).
