rpm command hangs if /var/lib/rpm is shared across multiple clients via NFS.

Resolution
Use RPC for communication between rpmdb client and server.

Client

Edit /etc/rpm/macros and add this line.


%__dbi_cdb    client host=&#60;server&#8217;s address&#62;

Server

Run RPC-Server


# /usr/lib/rpm/rpmdb_svc -h /var/lib/rpm

Though no prompt returns and no messages are displayed, this is expected.
Then try to install/erase [...]]]></description>
